Building Practice Education Capacity: The Collaborative Practice Team |
This project was a collaborative practice arrangement betwee UBC, School of Nursing and Richmond Hospital Services. The primary objectives were to: 1) increase the numbers of undergraduate nursing student clinical placements among the RH surgical services areas; 2) increase the number of students transitioned into full-time staff positions upon graduation; 3) increase the number of adult care nurses successfully trained in pediatric care; and 4) increase the number of educational programs and offerings for staff and students during the project. |

This project is intended to explore rural practice as a meaningful place for learning while supporting students and nurses through the creation of a virtual learning community and a stipend. This pilot project is designed to provide a quality acute care rural educational practice experience within the Interior Health Authority for year 4 (term 8) Thompson Rivers University B.S.N. nursing students. |

UBC Collaboration for Maternal and Newborn Health - Nurse preceptorship Program |
This program pairs a nurse with medical students for three 12 hour shifts in the labour and delivery room. This has dramatically changed the relationship between nurses and medical students and helped to improve the medical students overall experience in obstetrics. There are plans to expand this program to include UBC midwifery students as well. |

Virtual EEG Simulator |
Computer software was created to allow simulations of real EEG recording. Given a shortage of practicum placements in BC, students in academic settings are not exposed to enough clinical examples before entering the hospital environment. The main objective was to have the software lead students through a series of graded exercises designed to facilitate the transition from academic setting to clinical workplace. |
